One of the most famous ship in history was built between 1759 and 1765 in South East England, in the port of Chatham. It was Deputy Admiral Nelson’s flagship, equiped with 100 cannons – the HMS Victory.

The English battleship was deployed in a naval battle for the first time, 13 years after it had been launched. After numerous duties the HMS Victory was taken out of service in 1797 due to fundamental damages to the construction.

A few years later the English naval ministry decided to overhaul the ship so that they could utilize it in military interventions again. During the first big naval battle after the renovation, the HMS Victory more than lived up to her name. Deputy Admiral Horatio Nelson used her as the flagship in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. In this naval battle England was able to thoroughly destroy Napoleons United French fleet. In the process, Lord Nelson lost his life.

The HMS Victory is one of the few battle ships from that time which has been preserved and is today open to the public as a Museum in Portsmouth.
