Awe, admiration and respect pay deference to this ocean predator, for its physique has not changed since way above 200 million years. Due to its torpedo shaped body, which can reach up to a length of 2.5 m, the reef shark is very fast and versatile and is therefore able to reach a diving depth of 280 meters.

Among other things he hunts and eats crabs, squids and fish of all kinds nearby coral reefs. Although the shark can also be sighted during the day, he is a nocturnal sea dweller. After a gestation period of twelve months the mother can give birth up to six pups.

His common living space is the Indian Ocean as well as the Western Central Pacific, mainly in offshore areas. The lifespan of the grey reef shark is estimated at about 25 years. Unfortunately also here the humans play a negative part by fishing or killing the animals prematurely for personal entertainment. Therefore this fascinating reef shark is, regrettably, also on the red list of threatened animals.

As Mother Nature has appointed this shark as the ?health police?of the ocean, an extinction would have fatal consequences for the ecological balance of the ocean.
