Description
This fascinating 1 kilo piece of coin art is dedicated to the ancient Maya site of Uxmal (“thrice-built” in Mayan), located in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, and its highest structure – the Pyramid of the Magician. The pyramid stands 38 m high and was built on an elliptical base, an unusual style found in few Mayan pyramids. It is unique among Mayan structures because of its rounded sides, height, and steepness. The coin designers succeeded in conveying the beauty and massiveness of the Magician’s Pyramid through a skillful blend of detail and ultrahigh relief. With the mintage of a mere 100 coins worldwide, the Uxmal coin is a 1 kilo silver .999 antique finish piece notable for exquisite craftsmanship and detailed elaboration. Thorough and precise minting process has resulted in the highly detailed reverse image that reveals decorative patterns of the massive Magician’s Pyramid, also known as the Pyramid of the Dwarf, which is the tallest structure at Uxmal. The obverse displays the Queen of Uxmal – the sculpture located on the main façade of the Pyramid of the Magician. The special thing about this coin is its refined look enhanced with obsidian inset, a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock.
