Background information

In ancient Greek religion and mythology Helios is the god of the Sun. In ancient art he is often depicted with a radiant crown riding his horse carriage through the sky. It’s said he rides his chariot every day from east to west rising and setting the sun. As his position of sun, he was all seeing and often called as a witness in oaths. Although worshipped throughout ancient Greece his major centre was on Rhodes. The Colossus of Rhodes was a gigantic statue of Helios and one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
