Background information

Halloween, celebrated on October 31, traces its origins back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people believed the boundary between the living and the dead grew thin. Bonfires were lit, and costumes were worn to ward off wandering spirits. With the spread of Christianity, the holiday became intertwined with All Saints’ Day (November 1), gradually evolving into the “All Hallows’ Eve” we know today. Over centuries, traditions merged across cultures, blending folklore, religious observances, and community celebrations.

In modern times, Halloween has become a vibrant occasion marked by creativity and family fun. Children dress in costumes to go trick-or-treating, while neighborhoods decorate houses with glowing pumpkins, cobwebs, and eerie scenes. Parties, haunted attractions, and themed gatherings highlight the playful side of the holiday, while symbols like bats, witches, and skeletons reflect its spookier roots. Halloween continues to grow globally, celebrated as much for its artistry and imagination as for its ancient traditions.
