Description

The “Enemies in Historyâ€ series highlights legendary historical rivals whose conflicts shaped the course of history. This issue is dedicated to General George Armstrong Custer and the Lakota chief Sitting Bull. Their names are forever linked to the famous Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876 – one of the most well-known conflicts between the Native peoples of North America and the United States Army.

While Custer was regarded as an ambitious military leader, Sitting Bull became a symbol of resistance, freedom, and the fight to preserve his people’s culture and way of life.

The reverse of the coin features the two historical opponents in impressive high relief, portrayed back-to-back and separated by an arrow as a symbol of the inevitable clash between two worlds. The powerful composition captures the tension and emotional intensity of this important chapter in American history. The 7 notches along the rim symbolize the 7th Cavalry Regiment in which Captain Custer served.

The obverse showcases the legendary scene “The Duel, Tomahawk and Sabre by Charles Schreyvogel in extraordinary high relief. The dynamic battle scene with galloping horses, raised weapons, and dramatic movement conveys the raw intensity and chaos of the historic conflicts of the American Wild West.

Thanks to its 2 ounces of silver, highly detailed relief, and limited mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide, this issue is a remarkable tribute to one of the most iconic and emotional chapters in American history.
