Description
Step into the world of the Sohei, the legendary warrior monks of medieval Japan whose lives were devoted to faith, discipline, and the protection of sacred traditions. As guardians of powerful Buddhist temples, the Sohei combined spiritual devotion with martial mastery, becoming one of the most distinctive warrior classes in Japanese history. Their loyalty belonged not to emperors or warlords, but to the beliefs and institutions they had sworn to defend. When monasteries and holy sites came under threat, these warrior monks took up the naginata and marched into battle, leaving a lasting mark on Japan’s turbulent past. As the third release in The Warrior’s Path series, following Hatamoto and Bushido, this issue pays tribute to a remarkable chapter of Japanese history. The reverse depicts a determined Sohei in a dynamic combat stance, wielding his gilded naginata against a backdrop of traditional temples, mountains, and an intense rising sun. Selective coloration and selective gilding bring additional depth and contrast to the design, while the antique finish emphasizes every sculpted detail. Struck from 2 oz of .999 fine silver and measuring 45 mm in diameter, this 2026 Niue issue carries a face value of 5 Dollars and features impressive 2.0 mm high relief. Limited to just 500 pieces worldwide, each coin is individually numbered, presented in a premium collector’s box, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity
