Description
As vintage becomes increasingly popular, we often encounter alternative jewellery and artworks created from different machinery parts.
Steampunk culture goes back to around 1980. The official beginning is associated with the 1979 novel Morlock Night by K. W. Jeter. Some people say that the appearance of steampunk can be related to Walt Disney’s 1954 film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Whatever its origins, it is evident that the appearance of steampunk was undoubtedly affected by science fiction such as Captain Nemo’s underwater ship in Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues under the Sea or The Time Machine by H. G. Wells.
It doesn’t matter whether they are real or a figment of the imagination: everything that operates mechanically is admired by steampunk fans. So, let’s begin our underwater trip and look around. The Lithuanian Mint presents a new collectible silver coin, Metal Fish: 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.
The reverse side of the coin portrays a metal fish and flowers, a seashell, parts of a ship, and octopus tentacles next to the fish, all elements of the underwater world. All this technology-related robustness and coldness are combined with the beauty and elegance of nature.
The obverse of the coin contains a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The coin is produced from aged silver using high relief technology.
A new technology―fragment plating―was also employed to produce the coin. This technology was developed and implemented specifically for the Steampunk series.
