This remarkable 1 oz silver coin pays tribute to the historic astronomical clock of St. Mary’s Basilica in Gdańsk, one of the oldest and largest medieval clocks still in existence. Designed in 1470 by master craftsman Hans Düringer, the original mechanism displays lunar phases, zodiac signs, and the liturgical calendar, and even features a procession of the Apostles at noon. The coin faithfully recreates this masterpiece with exceptional precision, combining historical artistry with modern minting techniques. Issued by the Central Bank of Malta as 5 euro legal tender, it is struck in Ag 999 proof quality, enhanced with digital printing and microprinting, and individually numbered along its plain edge.
