On June 26, 1963 a historical event took place in front of the city hall Schöneberg in Berlin. The first US president visited the German capital cities after the wall was built. During his speech John F. Kennedy made a memorable historical quotation:
All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin,
and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words Ich bin ein Berliner .
It was a Statement, which expressed its solidarity to the population of West Berlin and deeply strengthened the relationship between America and Germany.
John F. Kennedy´s charm and the atmosphere of his departure from the reign appealed to the people worldwide. No other American president or hardly any other person succeeded on doing so at such an extent in the 20th century. Due to his early death Kennedy became a legend and made history.
