Description
The Aztec Emperor Cuauhtémoc Tribute Coin is a modern homage to one of the most iconic figures of Mesoamerican history: Cuauhtémoc, the final sovereign ruler of the Aztec Empire. Minted in 1 oz of .999 silver and finished in a striking combination of gold gilding and BU matte, this collectible revives the spirit of the original Mexican 5 Pesos coin of 1947–1948, which portrayed the emperor as a symbol of indigenous strength, resistance, and national identity. This contemporary issue preserves the dignity and historical weight of that classic design while presenting it with modern ultra-high-relief precision.
The obverse features the powerful portrait of Emperor Cuauhtémoc, capturing his legacy as the leader who stood against the Spanish conquest during the empire’s final days. On the reverse appears the national emblem of Mexico, accompanied by the issuing country’s effigy, establishing the coin’s dual tribute to both ancient heritage and modern numismatics. Struck as Niue legal tender with a face value of 2 dollars, the coin measures 38.6 mm, includes a 2.9 mm relief and 4.5 mm thickness, and is presented in an elegant display box with a Certificate of Authenticity. With a worldwide mintage of only 250 pieces, it stands as a rare and meaningful collector’s item.
