The Opera House
… is the landmark of the biggest Australian city Sydney. The Opera House accommodates five theatres with an overall seating capacity of more than 5’500. In 1957 the renowned Danish architect Jørn Utzon won the official submission for this building. Utzons construction plan reminds of one of the sails of a ship, and later the architect explained that the segments of an orange were the basis of his idea for the Opera House. In 1959 construction began. Fifteen years later this landmark was officially opened by Queen Elisabeth II. It counts to one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.
