Albrecht Dürer, born in Nuremberg in 1471, was the greatest artist of the
German Renaissance. Created in 1500, the “Self-Portrait at Twenty-Eight”
alludes to medieval representations of Jesus Christ. The man looks directly in
the viewers’ eyes, and raises his hands as if in the act of blessing. It is the
only example of this type of portrait in the history of fine arts. This precious
