The ‘Pegasus’ coin is the third issue in the ‘Mythical Creatures’ series. Now using the enhanced Smartminting©️ technology which makes the same relief on a 1oz coin as previous a 2oz coin. Everything is the same, just now on 1oz which makes this coin more affordable. It is struck on a 1 oz pure silver 38.61mm blank in the highest PROOF quality. It has a limited mintage of only 499 pcs worldwide and comes in a beautiful box with a Certificate of Authenticity. This coin fits perfect in a mythology collection.
Coin description
The coin’s reverse depicts a mythical winged divine horse also known as Pegasus with his impressive strong appearance. A strong horse body and beautiful large wings. On the reverse also the inscriptions ‘PEGASUS’ (name of the coin) and ‘2022’ (the year of issue).
The coin’s obverse side depicts the standard Tanzania coat of arms. With the inscriptions: “TANZANIA” (the issuing country) and “1000 SHILLINGS” (the face value).
Background information
Pegasus is one of the most well-known creatures of Greek mythology. It’s a winged divine horse mostly depicted in white. In the classical Greek telling his father was Poseidon and caught by the Greek hero Bellerophon with the help of Athena and Poseidon. He helped Bellerophon defeat the Chimera (Tanzania Coin Chimera part of this series as well). It’s said when Pegasus touches the ground a spring was formed. Pegasus is also mentioned in relation to him carrying thunderbolts for Zeus, who transformed him in a star constellation.
