Background information

Gorillas (Gorilla gorilla) are the largest living primates, inhabiting the dense forests of central Sub-Saharan Africa, with Cameroon being one of the countries where they reside. Cameroon is home to the Western Lowland Gorilla, a subspecies known for its intelligence and complex social structures. Sharing about 98% of their DNA with humans, gorillas exhibit behaviors and emotional capacities remarkably similar to our own.

These gentle giants live in family groups called troops, led by a dominant male known as a silverback, named for the distinctive patch of silver hair that develops with maturity.
