The Mongolian wolf, with a body length of up to 140 cm and a shoulder height of up to 90 cm, is an imposing animal. These mammals that live in a pack are able to catch their prey at a speed of 60 km/h. In order to meet their daily need of about four kilograms of meat they hunt deer but also smaller animals such as rabbits and mice.
Wolves have a distinct social behaviour. The pups are not only raised by their mothers but also by other members of the pack who take part in rearing the offspring. The predators communicate by means of various signals such as their tail posture or ruffling up their fur. They also use their ear posture as a means of communication. The wolf which is common in Mongolia belongs to the genus of Tibetan wolves. Today it is one of the endangered animal species.
