Description
With the «Lilies of the Valley Egg», another astonishing masterpiece by Peter Carl Fabergé, we are celebrating the 6th edition of this remarkable series. The impressive effect of this proof silver coin is created by a combination of gold plating and detailed coloring.
This egg was given by Tsar Nicholas II to his wife, Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna, for Easter in 1898. It is part of the series of 50 eggs created especially for the Romanovs. The egg is covered with a pink-colored enamel guilloche and decorated with miniature lily flowers made of diamonds and pearls.
Turn the golden pearl button to reveal the surprise inside this egg. Once fully lifted, three portraits appear beneath a ruby-set imperial crown: Tsar Nicholas II and his two eldest daughters, Grand Duchesses Olga and Tatiana. This egg held deep emotional significance for Tsarina Alexandra, not only because of the family portraits but also because the lilies adorning it were her favorite flowers.
The egg epitomizes Fabergé’s characteristic combination of luxury and nature themes. The design of the Lilies of the Valley egg is strongly inspired by the Art Nouveau style that was popular in Europe at the time.
Today, the egg, which has an estimated value of around 18 million dollars, is owned by Victor Vekselberg and is open to the public in the museum in St. Petersburg.
