NumisCollect® proudly presents the first release in the new Above the Surface series, featuring the charming and lifelike Seal. This innovative issue brings nature to life through Ultra High Relief, creating a stunning three-dimensional effect where the seal appears to emerge directly from the water. Struck from 1 oz of pure silver and issued as 1000 Francs CFA legal tender of Cameroon, this 36 mm coin combines advanced minting with artistic craftsmanship in a truly captivating way.

What makes this release especially unique is the use of hand-applied enamelling to recreate the deep blue water surrounding the seal. Each piece is individually finished, meaning no two coins are exactly the same, adding a layer of exclusivity to every specimen. With a limited mintage and presented in a dome shaped capsule in premium packaging with certificate of authenticity, this first issue sets a strong foundation for a visually engaging new series. Just 499 are released and available at NumisCollect distributors worldwide.

Coin description

The reverse showcases a beautifully sculpted seal in Ultra High Relief, appearing to rise naturally above the water’s surface. The surrounding water is rendered in rich blue tones using hand-applied enamelling, creating depth, movement, and a realistic fluid effect. Due to this artisanal process, each coin features slight variations, making every piece unique.

The obverse features the Coat of Arms of Cameroon along with the inscriptions “REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN,” “2026,” and “1000 FRANCS CFA.” The clean and classic design provides a strong contrast to the dynamic and artistic reverse.

Background information

Seals are highly adapted marine mammals known for their agility in water and their curious, expressive faces. Found in oceans across the world, they spend much of their lives at sea but often come ashore or onto ice to rest, breed, and care for their young. Their smooth movement through water and playful nature have made them a favorite subject in wildlife observation and photography.

The boundary between water and air is one of the most fascinating environments in nature, where movement, light, and reflection constantly interact. Capturing this moment, where an animal emerges from beneath the surface, reflects both curiosity and transition, symbolizing discovery and the connection between two worlds.
