The Leviathan 2023 2 oz Silver Coin is the third release in the acclaimed Angels and Demons series, struck from 2 ounces of .999 pure silver in high relief with an antiqued finish and selective gold plating. Limited to only 250 pieces worldwide, it explores the fearsome sea demon’s dual roots in Christianity and Judaism. In Christian demonology, Leviathan is a prince of Hell, lord of the depths, and a symbol of pride, envy, and uncontrollable passions, while in Jewish tradition, he is a colossal sea creature created at the dawn of the world—embodying primordial chaos and destined for destruction at the end of days. The reverse presents a dramatic maritime nightmare: Leviathan’s colossal, tentacled form drags a great ship into the depths, splintering its hull as passengers flee in lifeboats, only to be assailed by flying demonic servants. The obverse contrasts heaven and hell—lush meadows and grazing deer on one side, barren wasteland and carrion birds on the other—divided by the Tree of Life, vibrant to the left, withered to the right. At its base rests the Coat of Arms of Niue with the coin’s year, face value, and issuing country, completing a design rich in symbolism and storytelling.
